About PlateMatch

Existing solutions for saving recipes are great, but don't solve the problem of actually choosing what to eat on any given day, especially when more than one person is involved.

Deciding what to eat is hard for couples, friend groups, and families. One person says they don't care, but says no to every suggestion; another person gets meal amnesia and forgets every food they've ever liked; someone else gets upset as soon as their pick is out of the running. So the choice keeps getting passed around until it's late, everyone is hangry, and you pick something easy that no one is excited about.

Dealing with that on occasion is an inconvenience. Doing it every day with the same people starts to ramp up tensions.

PlateMatch replaces that process with a few minutes of swiping. Everyone says what they would happily eat, and the app finds where you overlap. Nobody has any more pressure on them than anyone else.

PlateMatch was founded by one guy who wanted to stay in his wife's good graces when dinner time approached.

• Easy access for all. Anyone can host or join a swiping session without an account or installing an app, so the friend you invite is swiping within seconds, not filling out a form.
• Everyone should be happy with the outcome. A match means every person said yes. Nobody gets overruled by the majority.
• From the match to the table. Once you've agreed, keep the recipe, put it on the week's plan and shop for it without copying anything out by hand.
• Your data is yours. We keep what the app needs to work and don't sell personal information. Our Privacy Policy has the detail.

The recipes you save come from the sites and posts you save them from, and PlateMatch links back to the original wherever there is one. Recipe searches are powered by Spoonacular and restaurant results come from Google.
